چکیده

We have examined the Ne/O and Fe/O characteristics of large solar energetic particle (SEP) events at ion energy range 3–40 MeV nucleon?1 during cycles 23 24. In each cycle, activity displays an ?3 yr rising phase a longer declining phase. While Fe-poor only appeared in cycle 23, properties Fe-rich were similar phases both cycles. Also, very few seen addition, data corona, wind, SEP consistently reveal that are mainly governed by wind turbulence status exhibits significant difference between slow fast streams. During cycles, streams dominated two-dimensional component, which significantly reduces injection quasi-perpendicular (Q-Perp) shock acceleration. increased ratio hence enhanced temperature coronal suprathermals, favoring occurrence events. contrast, slab could increase Q-Perp Consequently, streams, most originate from jet suprathermals. The suprathermals may produce having abnormally low ratios provided speed associated mass ejection is enough.

Major solar eruptions and high-energy particle events during solar cycle 24

We report on a study of all major solar eruptions that occurred on the frontside of the Sun during the rise to peak phase of cycle 24 (first 62 months) in order to understand the key factors affecting the occurrence of large solar energetic particle events (SEPs) and ground level enhancement (GLE) events. The eruptions involve major flares with soft X-ray peak flux ≥ 5.0 x10 Wm (i.e., flare siz...

Solar Wind Plasma Parameter Variability Across Solar Cycles 23 and 24: From Turbulence to Extremes

Solar wind variability spans a wide range of amplitudes and timescales, from turbulent fluctuations to the 11 year solar cycle. We apply the data quantile-quantile (DQQ) method to NASA/Wind observations spanning solar cycles 23 and 24, to study how the uniqueness of each cycle maximum and minimummanifests in the changing statistical distribution of plasma parameters in fast and slow solar wind....

Time Evolution of Elemental Ratios in Solar Energetic Particle Events

Heavy ion ratio abundances in Solar Energetic Particle (SEP) events, e.g. Fe/O, often exhibit decreases over time. Using particle instruments on the ACE, SOHO and STEREO spacecraft, we analysed heavy ion data from 4 SEP events taking place between December 2006 and December 2014. We constructed 36 different ionic pairs and studied their time evolution in each event. We quantified the temporal b...

Factors Affecting The Intensity of Solar Energetic Particle Events

This paper updates the influence of environmental and source factors of shocks driven by coronal mass ejections (CMEs) that are likely to influence the solar energetic particle (SEP) events. The intensity variation due to CME interaction reported in [1] is confirmed by expanding the investigation to all the large SEP events of solar cycle 23. The large SEP events are separated into two groups, ...

Correlation of Upper-Atmospheric Be with Solar Energetic Particle Events

A surprisingly large concentration of radioactive Be was observed in the upper atmosphere at altitudes above 320 km on the LDEF satellite that was recovered in January 1990. We report on follow-up experiments on Russian spacecraft at altitudes of 167 to 370 km during the period of 1996 to 1999, specifically designed to measure Be concentrations in low earth orbit. Our data show a significant co...
